music everywhere and why?

During my travels to LA and back in the last few days, I was paying attention to how many places play random music in the background. From the airport to getting on the bus that took me to the rental car place. When I got on the bus, the music was so loud that I could hardly concentrate on anything else. I remember one time after landing on an airplane, music started playing at a seriously loud volume all the way to the gate. I remember laughing because it was so over the top. It's in restaurants, bars just about everywhere. My question is, why?? Is it really necessary? Do companies feel that people constantly need entertainment to keep them going? I feel it is way over used and sometimes a bit of silence does a brain good.

Today

Got back from LA last night. Finalized the video editing with Simon in his studio and the masters were shipped to Europe.

This morning woke up and went to Ohori's Coffee and bought a pound of dark roasted New Guinea Kimel coffee. When purchasing a pound, you get a complementary cup of coffee, which was quite tasty I might add! Then off to the Santa Fe Baking Co. to pick up my breakfast burrito with green chile. They have the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. Happy to have the video project completed and now I'll be concentrating on preparing for the Summer tour and working on song ideas here and there.

Coffee first, then practice...

Apparently the coffee hadn't kicked in when I started to practice this morning. I've never been a morning person, although I do try. I sat down, took a sip of coffee, set the timer, turned the metronome on and put my foot up on the foot rest. At that point I realized that I was missing something......the guitar. I can't explain how silly I felt after I realized that, especially sitting there for a few seconds hearing the ticking of the metronome.

Over all, once I woke up, I got a good practice in. About to go back and go over a few more things. Think it will be one of those days where I practice on and off all day.

weekend

Over the weekend I went on a 7 mile hike up into the mountains. It was a beautiful day out and the view was fantastic!! I'll have to up load some pictures soon.

Thunder Storm

Yesterday a thunderstorm rolled through mid afternoon. I took some time to record some of it with my stereo mic. I'm thinking about taking the stereo mic and portable dat player on tour this summer to record sounds. Could come in handy for future recordings.
