Tonight - EL MESON
Great crowd tonight. I started out the second set with the reprise version of Aegea off of my Thira album and blended it into a new piece I've been working on that has more of a Samba type feel. Right away a couple got up in front of the stage and started dancing to the music, it was great. It set the tone for the second set as we started playing some of Nacha's music and some Afro Cuban classics. Lots of good applause and more dancing. I really enjoyed my self.
Thanks to Warren and all the staff for their warm hospitality. Great place to hang, not to mention the food is fantastic.

Looking for Sounds in all the wrong places
Mr. Duros looks for Sounds

During the sound check in Quito, Ecuador last month, I had a really hard time finding the sounds l needed, I wasn't using my Keybord that I'm used to which is a Korg. There was a sound I came across on this thing called "Mucus". You don't want to know what that one sounded like.

Back in the days where I was totally hooked on diet coke. And yes, the stuff is totally addictive. I'd have dreams about a giant shiny diet coke can orbiting in space above the Earth then wake up and need to drink some!! Crazy eeh?
That was also the day I tried to help open the trailer door but was grabbing a handle that was attached the trailer and not the trailer door. I went to give it a huge pull and nearly pulled my arm out of my socket and cut my finger. Of course it was right in front of everyone. Lots of laughs to be had. Amazing how one photo brings back all sorts of memories.

Tuesday - Feb 13th
That's my project for the day, seasoning the Molcajete. Wow, that's a project and a half. It has to sit in hot water for 4 hours first, then you have to grind white rice down to a powder which turns grey due to the lava rock coming off. You then have to repeat the process till all the rice powder is white. After that, the same process with rock salt then.... well, it was a lot to do. Happy that part is over. Now it's sitting for 24 hours with garlic, cumin, salt and pepper ground up in there. After that, I just have to rinse it out and it should be ready to use. I'm looking forward to making salsa and guacamole in this. Hopefully I did everything correctly, it would be a drag to bite into some guacamole with small lava rocks in it.
I'll keep you posted

Feb 11th - Traveling home
Was able to get a picture of some lighting while descending into Houston from Mexico City.
Non eventful travel day today for the most part. Lobby call at 10:30 am. About a 5 hour bus ride from Morelia to Mexico City. A flight to Houston connecting to ABQ then about a 60 mile drive to Santa Fe. Didn't get home till after midnight.
Things were going smoothly till I got on the second flight to ABQ. I was running a bit late from getting a bite to eat but nothing serious. Last call hadn't been made yet. I got on the plane and walked down the aisle only to find some dude sitting in my window seat. So I politely said, this is my seat. And he quickly pointed out some other seat and said "That one's open, why don't you take that!" Nice, just what I needed after a long day of traveling. I was very tired and just wanted my seat. Besides the other seat was not happening. So I said, No, I'd like the window seat and he said "what are you a photographer!" all upset and huffed and puffed and then moved. Nice, Have a nice day.....
The flight went quickly. Then as we were landing someone across the aisle started hurling in the barf bag. I never really thought anyone used those? But that one seemed to come in handy. At that point I was thinking, I hope we really land soon. It reminded me of the time a few years ago in New Zealand when touring with Ottmar. We were flying from Wellington NZ to Auckland. During that flight, some kid sitting behind me let loose all over the tray and back of my seat. I remember thinking, how do I get that little oxygen bag above me to come down?? That would have been a life saver. Remember! even though the air is flowing, the oxygen bag will not inflate!

The new light rig I designed worked out really well and I'm happy with it. In the past, my old design was a combination of Par cans and moving lights. Now I'm using only moving lights with a few ACLs and Lekos. Saves time on set up and focusing. After the first day of programing the show, I save it on disk and I'm set for the rest of the tour. All I have to do is show up, load the disk in the console, tweek a few things and I'm ready to go. Special thanks to the great lighting crew I have down here in Mexico. Doing a great job!
It will be coming with us for all the shows in Mexico.
